Traditionally, Citronella has been used for its therapeutic properties as an antiseptic, deodorant, tonic and stimulant.

Citronella is best known as a plant insect repellent, and was registered for this use in the United States since 1948. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers Citronella as a biopesticide with non-toxic action.

Scientific research has also shown that Citronella had strong antifungal properties.
